Every day there are thousands to toil in climbing stairs or walking a few steps. Desperately looking for a little air, they fail to catch their breath with difficulty. They suffer from respiratory failure, and for them, breathing is a daily struggle.

In our region the glorious industrial past, the retired miners lungs eaten away by underground work helped draw attention to this evil which today takes many forms. Heavy smokers, asthmatics, people with chronic bronchitis do not escape the daily use of aerosol and oxygen tanks. Doctors, nurses and physios trying today to break their isolation by giving them the means to pursue a life more or less normal. They speak in the magazine Living Sambre.
